On Saturday, May 7, Avon Old Farms School will host students, faculty, parents, and friends at Relay for Life, a nighttime walking fundraiser in support of the American Cancer Society. Teams from Avon and Miss Porter’s School will walk the Village Green and field house for 6 hours straight to benefit the Society's research program, services for cancer patients and their loved ones, and public education efforts. Teams are currently raising money with on-campus fundraising events, in addition to collecting individual pledges from friends and family.

Registration begins at 6:00 p.m. And the event truly kicks off at 7:00 p.m. with an opening ceremony, a parade of the teams and the traditional Survivors Lap. At 9:30 p.m., the Luminary Ceremony will honor people who have been touched by cancer and remember loved ones lost to the disease, with luminaries lighting the path for a silent lap, followed by a speech by a cancer survivor to energize the walkers and remind everyone that there is always hope.

Walkers and team members will be kept busy throughout the night with plenty of activities. There will be various performances by both students and faculty, a chance for students to send a few volunteering faculty members into the dunk tank or give them a pie in the face, and much more. Snacks and meals will be provided along with plenty of entertainment, and prizes will be awarded for best team theme.
