Avon Restores Historic Quadrangle Walkways

Avon Old Farms School is pleased to announce that work on the restoration of the Pope Quadrangle walkways has begun! This historic project to return the walkways to bluestone is to be funded by private gifts and a $150,000 grant from the State of Connecticut through the Connecticut Commission on Culture & Tourism. We are exceedingly grateful for a lead gift of $250,000 from an alumnus of the Class of 1955 and for the grant from the Connecticut Commission on Culture & Tourism, which has allowed us to commence work. Avon will continue to seek an additional $200,000 in private gifts to fund fully the project.

The Connecticut Commission on Culture & Tourism brings together tourism, historic preservation, and the arts. Its mission is to preserve and promote Connecticut’s cultural and tourism assets in order to enhance the quality of life and economic vitality of the state. We are enormously grateful to the Connecticut Commission on Culture & Tourism for its generosity and that of our alumnus, which is allowing Avon Old Farms School to fulfill a long-standing desire to return the Pope Quadrangle walkways to the original beauty and design of our founder, Theodate Pope Riddle.
