Music

Avon is proud of its dynamic music program. We offer a wide variety of vocal and instrumental music options, including three choral groups, a student-run a cappella group, two jazz ensembles, and a chamber orchestra for string, woodwind, and piano players.

In addition, there are courses in music appreciation, music theory, and an independent study option. Private instruction is available for any instrument, and two levels of class instruction in guitar are also offered. Outside of the classroom, students are welcomed to organize bands or ensembles and play at any of the popular Friday night “Open Mic” sessions, or partake in any of several music-related clubs.

The magnificent Beatson Performing Arts Center, which opened in 2007, has multiple practice rooms, equipped with pianos, amplifiers, and drums, as well as larger rooms for ensemble rehearsals. These rooms are available to all students throughout the day.
