Avon Outreach
Community Service at Avon
Faculty Advisor: Mr. Tyler Wuthmann
Avon Outreach is a community service club, which is made up of over 75 students. Avon Outreach provides opportunities for students to do community service both on and off campus. Although there is not a community service graduation requirement here at Avon, all students are strongly encouraged to participate in some type of community service every year. It is estimated that over 75% of the student body participates in at least one Avon Outreach event each year. Students who accumulate more than 20 hours of community service throughout the year are awarded a community service rosette at the end of the year.
Avon Outreach sponsors many different events and community service opportunities. In September Avon Outreach always raises money for and participates in the Walk for Juvenile Diabetes. In May, the club raises money for and walks in the MS Walk at Westminster School. Avon Outreach also provides students with opportunities such as serving dinner at a soup kitchen in Hartford, playing soccer, hockey or basketball with a Special Olympics team, building houses for Habitat for Humanity and playing BINGO at a local nursing home.
