Enrollment:

Avon is a college preparatory school for 408 students, of whom 305 are boarding and 103 are day students.

Faculty:

69 full-time, 4 part-time, with 66 faculty/administration members living on campus.

Tuition:

For 2012-2013; $48,500 for boarding, $36,700 for day (Fees: aprox. $2,800)

35% of the students were awarded scholarships totaling over $3.9 million

Advanced Placement:

Avon offers Advanced Placement courses in Environmental Science, Calculus, Statistics, U.S. History, U.S. Government, English, Chemistry, Latin, Studio Art, World History, and Economics.

Average Class Size:

12, with a student-teacher ratio of 6:1

Requirements:

Each student is expected to complete the following studies:

  • Four  years of English
  • Three years of Mathematics, including Geometry, Algebra 1 & 2
  • Three years of History, including United States History
  • Three years of Science, with intensive lab work, including Biology
  • Two years of the same Foreign Language
  • One course in Fine Arts
  • Two years of Electives

Sports:

Avon believes deeply in the importance of athletics as an integral part of a total education of mind and body. Students are required to participate in either a sport or other designated school activity each afternoon. Interscholastic sports include: baseball, basketball, cross-country, football, golf, ice hockey, lacrosse, riflery, ski racing, soccer, squash, swimming, tennis, track, and wrestling. In some sports, as many as five levels of teams are available to help ensure that students are placed appropriately according to ability. There is also a conditioning program in the fall, which includes intensive cardiovascular, and strength training components. There are 37 teacher-coaches, two full-time trainers and a physical therapist on staff.

Extracurricular:

Community service projects include Habitat for Humanity, Toys for Tots and an annual blood drive. Activities include the student council, yearbook, newspaper, The Riddlers choral group, jazz ensemble, chorale, computer club, rock and roll, history club, Nimrod club, social activities committee, rugby club, community service, and international clubs. In addition one musical and two dramatic productions are produced each year in coordination with students from Miss Porter's School.
