Event Recap: In the season opener, Avon’s Fifths soccer team came up short against one of Brunswick’s Thirds teams. Although Avon put forth a strong effort, we struggled to move the ball into the offensive zone and create scoring opportunities. Brunswick kept up their attack throughout the game, scoring 3 goals in the first half and 3 goals in the second.
With that said, there were a few notable performances on the AOF squad: Jeb Biggart, who stepped up to play goalie two days before game day, had quite a few saves in this match. Dan Paul and Ryan Messinger were two other defensive stalwarts that anchored the defense throughout the game.
On the offense, midfielder Jake Whitty, midfielder James Wong, and striker Duke Brown-Jones had a few great touches on the ball, but overall, Avon was not able to muster up a scoring drive.
Given that many of our Fifths players are new to the sport, Avon had a decent showing today, but there is room for improvement. Experience, in practice and in games, should be helpful. Our next game is at home on Saturday against the Gunnery. |
