13th Annual Pushups for Patriots Raises More Than $40K

PUSHUPS FOR PATRIOTS MARCHES ON

This year, the 13th Annual Pushups for Patriots event found more success thanks to the leadership of Major John Bourgault '80. This year, he opted for a 12-hour showing of grit and determination, completing 10 pushups a minute for 12 hours straight—for those of you trying to do the math, that's a total of 7,200 pushups (not to mention the pull-ups performed in between sets to balance out the exertion of muscle groups).

Two Avonians were along for the 12-hour challenge: Erik Eads '21 and Jake Marmott '23. Avon also witnessed four community members, August Berklas '21, Magnus Gadowsky '21, Francis Hagood '21 and Michale Xie '22, complete a full marathon inside the Field House by running laps each minute. Faculty member Benjamin Schloat completed 38 miles, and senior Jack Glaspey completed 36 miles, both more than a 50K competition.

Following the event, Major wrote this letter to the community:

Fellow Avonians,

On behalf of the countless servicemen and women and their families that will directly benefit from our collective actions today...thank you.

Our community is special and today exemplified to me once again, that when called, we can all come together for the benefit of others.  If you participated in the field house or made a donation, you can proudly say that your efforts were instrumental in raising over $40K in support of our wounded servicemen and women.

If you have not yet had a chance to make a financial donation, and wish to, you can contribute online HERE.

I am proud of each of you and the entire community. It's great to be an Avonian!
