Avonian Named All-American at Prep National Wrestling Tournament
The 2021 National Prep Open was held on Sunday, May 2, 2021 and Monday, May 3, 2021 at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza in Wilkes-Barre Township, PA.
While the Tournament is usually held at the end of February, in 2021 due to COVID-19 there was not a regular wrestling season. When the tournament was rescheduled for May, a team of eight dedicated athletes chose to train under the director of Major John Bourgault, Dr. Chris Doyle, and Mr. Ian Bomely to get to the National Prep Open.
The wrestlers competing were:

- George Brannon '22 (126 lbs)
- Kieran Davey '23 (152 lbs)
- Drew Freni '23 (152 lbs)
- James Mullen '22 (160 lbs)
- Dylan Kasperzyk '21 (160 lbs)
- Brain Namnoum '21 (220 lbs)
- Alex Salgar '22 (285 lbs)
All Avon wrestlers had a good showing. Most earned at least one win in this demanding tournament. Brian Namnoum was recognized as an All-American high school wrestler, placing sixth overall at 220 lbs.
