Dreams Art Exhibit at Avon Old Farms School
AVON, Conn. – This February, Avon Old Farms School will host a 12-school collaborative Dreams art exhibit in its Ordway Art Gallery. The show will feature artwork by middle and high school students from the local area.
“This show’s purpose is to build a collaboration between young artists in the local area and to provide a space for us all to celebrate the arts together,” said Visual Arts Chairperson Cristina Pinton. “This is the second year we’ve been able to host art coming from 12 local schools under one roof. We’re building community among the students, but among the arts teachers as well.”
A public reception will take place Friday, February 22, 6 - 7:30 p.m. at the Ordway Art Gallery in the Beatson Performing Arts Center on Avon Old Farms School’s campus. For those who are unable to make it to Friday’s opening night reception, the show will remain open to the public from February 22 - March 3, 9 a.m. - 8 p.m.
Schools participating in the show include: Avon Old Farms School, Henry James Memorial School, Simsbury High School, Ethel Walker School, Kingswood-Oxford School, Grace Academy, Westminster School, Miss Porter’s School, Avon Middle School, Avon High School, Irving A. Robbins Middle School, Bristow Middle School of West Hartford, and Renbrook School. Each school is allowed to submit up to four pieces of art, of any medium.
Special guests Mark Snyder and Power Boothe, of the University of Hartford Art School, will attend the event to view work and offer each participant constructive feedback and interpretation.
“I hope these young artists enjoy meeting each other, inspire each other, and learn to work collaboratively in years to come,” said Pinton.
