We Remember

"Up, up the long delirious burning blue; I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace.

Where never lark, or even eagle flew; And while with silent, lifting mind I've trod

The high, untrespassed sanctity of space; Put out my hand, and touched the face of God."

JOHN GILLESPIE MAGEE JR. '40, FROM THE POEM "HIGH FLIGHT"

Charles Cummins '78

Man of Avon Charles Cummins '78

Charles David Cummins (Chuck) of Jacksonville, Florida passed away on January 3, 2023 (after a long and hard-fought battle with heart disease).

Chuck was born in Knoxville, TN on March 31,1960 to Donald Deloss Cummins and Roberta Englund Cummins. He was raised in Avon, CT where he attended Avon Old Farms School. Chuck Attended Texas Tech University and remained an avid fan of the Red Raiders. He enjoyed many interesting occupational pursuits throughout his lifetime; from EMT Medical work to Train Conductor with a tourism group in Arizona to IT management for a Commercial Bank.

He was a larger-than-life character. Deeply committed to his spouse Teresa for 34 years, Chuck was hugely passionate about many aspects of life. He was a traveler, an astronomer, a VW Beetle enthusiast, and a Here Come the Mummies and Jimmy Buffet superfan. He found hilarity in all things being human and always had a humorous tale or trivia fact to share about any given topic.

An avid Sailor, working the HMS Bounty preservation project teaching skills to future Traditional Sailors, intensified his love of the ocean. This fueled a passion for him and Teresa that led to the Chartering of several sail boats in the Caribbean with close friends for extended vacations.

He is predeceased by his parents and grandparents, and is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Teresa Fries Cummins, and his brother, Douglas Alan Cummins.

The family welcomes friends to the Naugle Funeral Home at 1203 Hendricks Ave for calling hours on January 6, 2023 from 4-7pm.

In lieu of flowers, please hold donations as a "Memorial Walker" for the Jacksonville Heart Walk sponsored by the American Heart Association will be established this summer.
