Edward "Ronnie" G. Nugent, of East Lyme, beloved husband of SuEllen W. Nugent, passed away at home Dec. 18, 2021, following a long battle with Parkinson's disease. He is the son of Donald H. Nugent Sr. and Frances M. Nugent. He was born in New York City June 17, 1939. He grew up in Hamden and Madison, and is an alumnus of Avon Old Farms.
He had a long career in banking, working for many years at Second National Bank, which later became Colonial Bank. He also worked for years at the Union Trust Company, in the Madison office. Following his banking career, he was the owner of Shoreline Yacht Sales, which allowed him to follow his heart and spend time on the water, messing about in boats.
All of his life, he loved boats and cars. He took great pride in keeping them immaculate. In his last days, he would perk up when he was reminded of the various cars he owned during his lifetime.
Besides his wife, Ed is survived by his sister, Carol Blackwood; his four children, Sarah E. Nugent and her wife Amy Dunn, Catherine S. Lo and her husband Richard Lo, Edward "Ned" H. Nugent and his wife Diane Nugent, Donald "Chip" M. Nugent and his wife Debbie Heald; his stepdaughter Alison Cardoza and her husband Josh Cardoza; and six grandchildren and three step-grandchildren. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, and his brother, Donald "Ted" H. Nugent Jr.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Ed's memory to the American Parkinson Disease Foundation at www.apdaparkinson.org.
There will be visiting hours from 10 to 11 a.m. and a memorial service at 11 a.m. Jan. 8, 2022, both at Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Homes, 48 Grand Street, Niantic. This will be followed by a reception at the Niantic Bay Yacht Club at 8 Shore Road, Niantic. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, all attendees are asked to please wear a mask.
Arrangements are being handled by Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Homes.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared on Mr. Nugent's memorial page at www.neilanfuneralhome.com.
We Remember
"Up, up the long delirious burning blue; I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace.
Where never lark, or even eagle flew; And while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high, untrespassed sanctity of space; Put out my hand, and touched the face of God."
JOHN GILLESPIE MAGEE JR. '40, FROM THE POEM "HIGH FLIGHT"
