Henry "Hank" Budney '56
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Henry “Hank” “Butch” Budney of Berlin. Hank was born in Newington in 1937, the son of the late Florence (Kulesza) and Michael P. Budney. He graduated from Avon Old Farms School and Morehead State University, Kentucky. After graduation, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Hank resided most of his life in Berlin, while also maintaining various residences throughout the year at his country farm in Goshen, summer home on the water in Charlestown, RI (Quonochotaug) and winters in Killington, VT. Hank was an avid golfer, and in his amateur years, he won club championship titles at Wethersfield Country Club and Indian Hill Country Club. In 1966, he also won the Anderson Four Ball at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, NY. Hank, as an amateur, also played twice in the Insurance Company Open (ICO), now known as the Travelers Championship. Hank was an avid fisherman and big game hunter. He further enjoyed other natural wildlife at his Berlin and Goshen properties, taking time to feed them daily.
In his successful business years, Hank was the head salesman and Vice President of Sales at Atlantic Machine and Tool in Newington. He then went on to become Vice President of Berlin Manufacturing, President/Owner of Budney Company and Budney Overhaul and Repair.
Hank was pre-deceased by his wife Judith (Doyle) Budney and his son Jeffrey. He leaves his devoted and loving eldest son Michael and wife Betsy of Farmington, son Kevin, and four grandchildren, Jenna, Blake, Morgan and Taylor.
The Budney family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Hank’s primary caregiver Karolyn, as well as to his dedicated and caring brother Wayne Budney of Lebanon, neighbors Mayo and Jim, Matt and Kristen, Ray and Barbara, Mary Anne and Arthur, Jack, Bud, Dave, Sandy, Carmen, friends at the Hawthorne, San Souci and Kensington Market. Special thanks to Hank’s conservator, Lucian Slepski, who went above and beyond in so many ways.
Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral service to be held on Thursday, Jan. 6, 2022, at 12 noon, at West Meadow Cemetery, 679 Willard Ave., Newington. Memorial donations may be made in Hank’s name to Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Road, Newington, CT 06111.
