We Remember

"Up, up the long delirious burning blue; I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace.

Where never lark, or even eagle flew; And while with silent, lifting mind I've trod

The high, untrespassed sanctity of space; Put out my hand, and touched the face of God."

JOHN GILLESPIE MAGEE JR. '40, FROM THE POEM "HIGH FLIGHT"

Joseph J. Martinecz '69

Man of Avon: Joseph J. Martinecz '69

Joseph “Joe” Julian Martinecz, age 67, of Cheshire entered into rest on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at Yale New Haven Hospital.  He was the devoted husband of Michelle (Morley) Martinecz for over 30 years.  Joseph was born on April 30, 1951 in Brooklyn, NY, son of the late Jules and Elizabeth (Rakowski) Martinez, and has been a Cheshire resident for most of his life.

Joe was a graduate of Avon Old Farms School and Georgetown University. Upon graduating, Joe joined and grew the family business, Oslo Switch, Inc., where he served as president for 45 years. Outside of the office, Joe was an avid skier, passionate youth lacrosse coach and dedicated (and often frustrated) golfer. He was the life of the party. Joe’s generosity was paramount and his kindness unmatched.

In addition to his wife, Michelle, Joe is survived by his loving children, George Martinecz of Brooklyn, NY and Molly Lipkvich and her husband, Brad of Killingworth.  He is also survived by his brother, Tom Martinez of Florida.

Joe’s family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff at Yale New Haven Hospital for their compassionate care they provided for Joe during his illness.

Friends may greet Joe’s family at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 So. Main Street, Cheshire, CT 06410 on Friday, July 27, 2018 from 4PM until 7PM.  On Saturday, July 28, 2018 his funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:15AM for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in St. Bridget Church, 175 Main Street., Cheshire at 10AM.  Interment will follow in Cheshire Hillside Cemetery, Wallingford Rd.   To leave online condolences for his family or to share a story of Joe, please visit www.fordfh.com
