From the Headmaster: Parent Meetings Recap

Dear Parents,

Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedules to attend our Zoom parent meetings this week. We have found these to be particularly helpful and comforting to our community rather than solely rely on email communications and we will continue to schedule Zoom meetings over the next few months. I appreciate your patience and support as we navigate the path toward reopening our campus.

For those who were unable to attend, here are some key highlights from the meeting:

  • Our Awards Ceremony will be livestreamed on May 23rd at 8:00 p.m. We will be sending our seniors a special, surprise presentation on May 24th which we will share with our community as well.

  • My team and I are planning for a variety of scenarios for the fall—from a hybrid model with some students on campus to an all-online model based on external/internal factors. We are sensitive to maintaining the Avon culture but with the current restrictions, the fall semester will likely feel different. As we receive updates, we will continue to pass those along to our community.

  • Our goal to announce our plans for the fall remains late June. I will continue to update our community over the course of May and June as decisions are made regarding financial modifications.

  • The health and safety of our students and residential community are paramount.  Our team is actively strategizing and formulating plans, as mandated by the state, to ensure we have a dedicated location to contain an infected student, a plan to evacuate should we have an outbreak and many more applicable scenarios for the fall.  Please know these are fluid situations but Avon Old Farms will be prepared should we be able to open our doors and welcome students in the fall.  If you have questions or concerns, please contact Rob Whitty

  • For Boarding students, we are scheduling a coordinated effort for you to pack up your son's dorm room.  Please be on the lookout for an email with instructions and directions.

I realize the current situation brings a level of uncertainty, but please know, we are making every effort to ensure we are prepared and ready to welcome your sons back to Avon this fall.

Aspirando et perseverando,
