Brett Jefferson ’84 Makes a Transformational $10M Commitment to Avon Old Farms
Avon Old Farms is celebrating an extraordinary show of generosity from Board of Directors member Brett Jefferson ’84 and his wife, Cathy, who have made a transformational $10 million commitment to the school. As Avon approaches its centennial, this pledge is not just a gift—it’s a powerful investment in the future of Avon’s young men, ensuring the school’s traditions, values, and excellence continue to thrive for generations to come.
The gift is made possible through the Catherine Jefferson Foundation. In honor of his mother, Catherine, who worked tirelessly to enable Brett to attend Avon, Brett and his wife, also named Catherine, established the Catherine Jefferson Foundation in 2012. Half of the funds will go toward the Catherine Marie Jefferson Scholarships, expanding opportunities for deserving students, while the other half will support campus improvements—starting with a new faculty home named in honor of former Head of School Ken LaRocque H’19, P’10, a beloved figure who shaped the lives of so many Avonians.
For Brett Jefferson, giving back to Avon is deeply personal. Brett arrived at Avon Old Farms as a sophomore in the fall of 1981 and quickly embraced the Avon community. Finding role models in both the faculty and student body, he adopted Avon’s rigorous structure that allowed him to flourish both academically and personally. “Avon Old Farms played a huge role in shaping who I am today. The values I learned here—discipline, leadership, perseverance—have stayed with me throughout my life. Cathy and I are incredibly proud to support a place that means so much to us, and we hope this inspires others to do the same.”
Avon Old Farms Head of School Jim Detora P’12 shared his gratitude and excitement. “Avon’s story has always been one of vision, leadership, and generosity. Brett and Cathy’s gift is an incredible testament to that spirit. Their commitment strengthens our mission and ensures that future generations will experience the same transformative education that has defined Avon for nearly 100 years.”
As Avon Old Farms moves toward its next century, this extraordinary pledge serves as a powerful reminder of the impact that philanthropy has on shaping the school’s future. It’s an exciting time to be an Avonian, and thanks to the Jefferson family, the best is yet to come!
