What You Will Find at Avon Old Farms
“The ways in which we differ are far more important than the ways in which we are alike.”
-Theodate Pope Riddle, Founder
Aof: The Facts
The Cotswold-inspired architecture of Avon Old Farms reflects the rigorous curriculum and traditional approach to education that is so successful here.
The school’s founder, Theodate Pope Riddle, was one of America’s first successful female architects, and she serves as the cornerstone of our school’s motto, Aspirando et Perseverando – To Aspire and To Persevere. Mrs. Riddle’s fortitude and vision in 1927 created the groundwork for an institution that challenges boys in the pursuit of knowledge and self-improvement.

Artists Flourish
We believe that boys who create music and visual art grow immeasurably. The lessons boys learn – from the on-campus art studios and music suites to a European chorale tour – have an impact on day-to-day accomplishments and can extend to society at large.
Scholars Excel
Our academic program is designed to instill a curiosity in learning. In addition to core subjects and the S.T.E.A.M. spheres of robotics and computer science, students engage in culturally relevant college-preparatory electives. We offer advanced placement courses in 16 subjects.
Athletes Thrive
Winged Beavers learn lessons that extend far beyond the game. Our athletics teams have won more than 30 championships in the last 15 years, and many of our athletes move on to compete for the nation’s foremost collegiate programs. At the same time, we ensure that an athletic experience is accessible and enjoyable for all students, with 24 sub-varsity teams and intramural activities.
