Where Excellence is Not Just a Goal, but a Tradition

At Avon Old Farms, we believe that development on the pitch and character formation off of it go hand-in-hand. We prioritize core values of sportsmanship, relentless work ethic, and healthy competition. Our mission is to ensure that every student-athlete leaves our program not just as a more refined soccer player, but as a better man prepared for the challenges of life beyond the game.

Head Coach Carl Stensland has ushered in an era of immense success for the Winged Beavers since taking the helm in 2020. Under his leadership, the program has secured two Founders League Championships (2022, 2025) and made three NEPSAC Class A Tournament appearances (2021, 2022, 2025).

Stensland’s tactical acumen and ability to develop talent have resulted in a dominant 56-22-13 record over five seasons, boasting a .687 winning percentage. His efforts have been recognized by his peers, having been named the C.S.C.A. Private School Outstanding Coach of the Year (Large Schools) twice, in both 2023 and 2025.

Coach Stensland is a dedicated student of the game, holding a U.S. Soccer Coaching License and a United Soccer Coaches Advanced Diploma. He also earned a Master’s degree in Soccer Coaching Education from Ohio University, ensuring that AOF players receive training grounded in the latest methodology and sports science.

Player Development & Exposure

Avon soccer has a rich history of depth and participation, fielding teams at four competitive levels: Varsity, JV, Thirds, and Fourths. This structure allows players of all abilities to compete, develop, and contribute to the school community.

For those aspiring to the next level, our program acts as a springboard to collegiate and professional success. We kick off each season with a rigorous five-day on-campus pre-season camp, which includes double sessions, a scrimmage against BB&N, and a team trip to watch a UConn soccer match.

Our commitment to recruitment exposure is unmatched. We participate in premier events such as the WNEPSSA Pre-Season Jamboree and the NXT LVL Invitational in Albany—an overnight showcase where our team performs in front of over 100 college coaches. This exposure has helped our alumni secure roster spots at numerous Division 1 and Division 3 schools, as well as professional organizations like Columbus Crew II.
