Captains Corner: Golf
Captains Corner: Golf
Once again, our varsity golf team has surpassed preseason expectations, proving they can compete with anyone. We sat down with captain Timmy Adams '25 ahead of their final tournament of the season to find out more about his role.
How did you end up on the varsity golf team?
"I've been playing golf my whole life, same with baseball, but my junior year I decided to fully focus on golf. I knew wanted to play in college, and I thought a PG year would help. Avon was my favorite school I toured."
Why do you think you were appointed captain?
"Part of it is that I'm the oldest on the team, the only senior. I've built a good connection with Coach Reese. Also, I was a captain at my old school, so I already had experience in that type of role."
What does the role of golf captain entail?
"I give the team drills to do in practice, help their mental game, take them through a pre-match routine, help them devise a plan for each course, and otherwise just assist coach or my teammates however I can."
What do you think makes a good leader?
"You have to be someone who the people can trust and want to listen to. One thing I've learned is it's good to get to know everyone on the team better. Having a connection with each individual helps you know how to read them and best communicate with them."
How has the season gone so far?
"Personally, I haven't played my best, but the team is doing really well. We've definitely done better than what was expected at the start of the season. We took third at the Coppola Cup, and were fourth out of 18 teams at the Western New England tournament. It's a young team too, so they have a bright future ahead of them."
What was the highlight of the season?
"Definitely the Western New England tournament. We all shot really well in that. The preseason trip was a lot of fun, too."
