At Avon, that number is $243,074, the School’s endowment market value per student. Among industry benchmarking group schools,* the median is $479,368, and the average exceeds $611,000. 

That number is more than a financial metric. It represents the permanent resources standing behind every boy who walks through Mrs. Riddle’s Village.

The difference matters. Avon’s endowment currently generates $7,449 in annual support per student, compared with $15,138 at industry benchmarking group schools. These permanent resources give schools greater flexibility to make financial aid offers, attract exceptional students and educators, and invest in the programs and experiences that define their institutions.

Endowment Makes Affordability Possible 

Affordability is more than the published cost of tuition. Financial aid is another essential part of that commitment. For the 2025-2026 school year, 42% of Avon students received financial aid, representing $6.8 million in annual support. 

Endowment income shapes affordability in a second, more universal way: every dollar it generates is a dollar the operating budget doesn't need to draw from tuition. Schools with larger per-student endowments can hold tuition increases lower, and generate a greater share of the revenue that runs the school from permanent sources. That flexibility matters most in a competitive environment: as families place greater emphasis on affordability and schools compete for a smaller pool of highly qualified students, endowment strength increasingly shapes a school's ability to respond. Schools with greater permanent resources can make more competitive financial aid offers while continuing to invest in the people and programs that make their education distinctive.
